Logline:
A millennial starts a new job in an office where his coworkers are a little too friendly, people who get promoted are never seen again, and his bosses are literal monsters.
Synopsis:
29-year-old Blake is fed up with his cafe job, his egomaniacal boss, Tim, and how work interferes with his dreams of being a rockstar. Late to a gig with his band, one of his band mates gives him a tip about a new job opening at ArcCroft, a place a mutual friend, Jason, had once worked at before becoming obsessed with his job and eventually disappearing without a trace. Encouraged and supported by his girlfriend, Denise, Blake applies for the job.
Blake interviews with Aaron and Jacqueline, the HR managers at ArcCroft. While he completely bombs his interview, he somehow lands the job. Celebrating with his friends, he reveals to them that he doesn’t actually know what the job is, and that it’s at the place Jason vanished. Denise cautions him.
On Blake’s first day, he finds that Aaron and Jacqueline are also his new bosses, and that his job is simple data entry. His colleagues are all overly-friendly, except for one person, Gus. Immediately, Gus receives his last warning about his performance and is forced into a meeting with HR. When he returns, he too is overly-cheery and announces that he’s been promoted. Blake learns that people who get promoted are never seen again.
Strange things begin to happen around ArcCroft, which Blake dismisses. Aaron and Jacqueline start pressuring him to put his job first, and Blake starts considering that maybe taking this job was the wrong choice. Learning of a potentially lucrative gig for his band, Blake blows off work with a sick day. When Aaron and Jacqueline find out, they transform into monsters and eat Blake’s friends before returning them to life as overly-cheerful minions. They manipulate reality so that Denise breaks up with Blake.
Blake resolves to quit. He runs into Tim who offers him his old job back. Aaron and Jacqueline capture Tim and in front of Blake, reveal their true forms. They eat Tim and turn him into a minion before giving Blake his final warning. With no other choice, Blake resolves to keep his job.
At the work Christmas Party, Blake is reminded of everyone he’s lost and tries to escape. Aaron and Jacqueline again transform and stalk Blake through the office. They reveal their true nature as hags, inspired by Hansel and Gretel, but who have adapted to modern times by luring victims in with steady employment rather than candy houses. They literally stew people in their own misery. Blake finds their oven and tricks them both into it, vanquishing them and destroying the building.
In the aftermath, Blake finds work/life balance by applying for an office job at a record company. It turns out the company has been bought by ArcCroft, and in true horror movie fashion, Jacqueline has survived and is his new boss.
